Hernando County (KBKV) Named Florida GA Airport of the Year

Hernando County Airport (KBKV) has been named Florida’s 2011 General Aviation (GA) Airport of the Year by the Florida Department of Transportation.

Each year, the Florida DOT recognizes outstanding contributors in the field of aviation. The 2011 award marks the third such distinction for Hernando County Airport, which was called GA Airport of the Year in 1993 and 2000.

Originally a WWII training airfield, this modern North Tampa Bay airport retains a pair of long concrete runways with facilities and amenities enhanced over the years by numerous capital improvements. New for 2012 will be a contract air traffic control tower. Key to the receipt all three awards has been the efficiency of full-service FBO American Aviation.

Featuring more than 1.5 million square feet of office and industrial space and home to more than 120 businesses and 2000 employees, the Hernando County Airport and Business Complex is a powerful community asset.

Airport manager Don Silvernell thanked the Board of County Commissioners, administrator David Hamilton, the Aviation Authority, business leaders and airport staff for this achievement.
