New Corporate Jet Terminal for Queenstown
/Corporate jet passengers flying in and out of Queenstown Airport will soon enjoy a seamless transition from sky to land thanks to a new corporate jet terminal opening in early 2014.
Auckland-based corporate jet handling company Air Center One and Capital Jet Services of Wellington have signed an agreement with Queenstown Airport Corporation Ltd (QAC) to lease land adjacent to the terminal building to develop a Fixed Base Operation (FBO) for corporate jet passengers.
The lease commences on 1 January 2014 and the new mini terminal, to be known as Queenstown Corporate Jet Services, will be built on a small strip of land between the International Arrivals area and the Hertz building. The terminal is expected to be operational by March 2014.
Air Center One and Capital Jet Services have a long history of mutual co-operation in the New Zealand corporate jet handling business and will build, finance and manage the facility as a joint venture.
Rob Leach, Air Center One CEO and pioneer of New Zealand’s corporate jet FBO services, said the key drivers for the development were to meet the continuing growth of corporate jet movements to Queenstown and provide an enhanced customer experience.
“The new FBO will enable us to raise the bar for corporate jet operators in Queenstown by providing similar facilities to Auckland and Wellington airports as well as the discreet, professional, high-end service they value. It will also allow us to complete our nationwide network of FBOs - the standard that corporate jet operators have come to expect at international airports.”
QAC CEO Scott Paterson said the new building was a long awaited improvement to Queenstown’s corporate jet facilities and a big step forward in positioning the airport as a key New Zealand gateway for premium visitors.
“The owners and operators of these aircraft are making a valued economic contribution to the airport and the local economy and it’s important for us to ensure that we’re delivering the best possible customer experience.
“The new facility is the first step in enhancing our corporate jet facilities. It will provide a dedicated space for our passengers to be welcomed, hosted and processed, creating a better first impression of Queenstown and a seamless transition from air to land.”
