NBAA Welcomes Confirmation of Anthony Foxx as Transportation Secretary
/Foxx, who on April 29 was nominated for the post by President Obama, most recently has been serving as mayor of Charlotte, NC. He was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 27.
“We congratulate Secretary Foxx on his confirmation, and we are anxious to meet with him personally, discuss our industry and take the next step in what we expect to be a productive, collaborative relationship,” said Bolen.
In December 2009, Foxx was elected as the youngest mayor in that city’s history. He began his career in elective office in 2005, when he was elected to Charlotte’s city council as an at-large representative, serving two terms before becoming mayor.
Bolen noted that while serving as a councilman, Foxx chaired that body’s Transportation Committee. As mayor, he worked with state and federal officials to meet the transportation needs of the Charlotte metro area.
During his recent confirmation hearing, Foxx said that as mayor he “decided to make efficient and innovative transportation investment the centerpiece of Charlotte’s job creation and economic recovery efforts.”
