SOLIDFX's FX8 Electronic Chart Reader Clears Clutter from the Cockpit

The FX8 reader stores the Jeppesen terminal charts, which weigh 230 lbs. on paper, as digital files on a device that weighs 13 oz. and is one-half inch thick. There has to be a better way.

Many great ideas have started with that famous statement. And the SOLIDFX FX8 is no exception.

Start with two successful high-tech professionals/entrepreneurs doing what so many people do at a certain age: learning to fly. Add the typical clutter of charts and documents in a cramped cockpit. And finally stir in a dash of inspiration followed by a lot of perspiration. And the result is the very best way to view Jeppesen terminal charts and many other aviation documents.

The SOLIDFX aviation information managers haven’t even celebrated their second birthday. But in that time they have done nothing less than revolutionize how pilots look at aviation. Or at least how they view Jeppesen terminal charts and other aviation documents.

SOLIDFX's FX8 now offers subscriptions to AC-U-KWIK airport and FBO data.Beginning with the revolutionary FX10 and its powerful successor, the FX8, SOLIDFX has created the technology that allows a pilot to carry every terminal chart Jeppesen makes — that’s 230 pounds of paper and binders that would stack 14 feet high — all in an electronic reader that is less than one-half inch thick and weighs under 13 ounces.

Featuring a display that’s easy to read in any lighting condition, the FX8 provides remarkable features and flexibility. While it easily handles storing, updating, organizing and displaying Jepp charts, it’s packed with many other features. And with its Instant-On feature, the FX8 comes out of sleep mode instantly. As a result, the FX8 battery delivers more than 24 hours of continuous use.

Now with AC-U-KWIK Data

SOLIDFX is announcing a host of new features for the FX8 at Oshkosh this month. The most exciting news is that FX8 users will be able to enjoy all the benefits of AC-U-KWIK. Available in the Worldwide, North American or International subscriptions, the best way to view Jepp charts is now also the best way to get the best information on airports, FBOs, hotels, rental cars and all the other services that make AC-U-KWIK the gold standard of aviation information.

A powerful upgrade, FXview 2.0, will be released following Oshkosh and will make the FX8 even easier to use while greatly increasing its functionality. The FX8 can act as a notepad allowing users to annotate charts — drawing a taxi route on the airport diagram for example — or enter data on one of the included templates for ATIS and clearances, U.S. and ICAO flight plan forms. Multiple pages of notes on the supplied narrow- and wide-lined stationery and other forms can be stored until cleared by the user. And all these pages can now be printed right off the FX8.

The FX8 Series units can also be used for reading a wide range of documents, including flight manuals, the FAR/AIM, e-books, newspapers and PDF files such as Jeppesen Nav Logs or other Trip Kit information. The FX8 Series units are fully EPUB-compatible.

Special bundle pricing enables JeppView subscribers to extend their current chart coverage area to the FX8 for a small fraction of the standard subscription costs. For example, subscribers to the full 48-state CONUS coverage can have all of those terminal charts added to their FX8 for just $55 more a year.
