Altitude Roasting Soars with Unique Blends for Coffee Lovers

Altitude Roasting is taking the art of coffee to new heights with the launch of its hand-roasted business founded by Kansas City resident, Alex Kenna. A local aviation professional at the city’s Hangar 10 by day, Kenna personally hand-roasts an array of invigorating blends, resulting in custom-like offerings that are made to order.

“Coffee has always been an interest of mine, and after reading more about it, I learned there is more to coffee than a can,” says Kenna. “I feel that the quality and precision I put into the roasting process of Altitude coffee beans are truly unparalleled and similarly matches the care I put into every batch.”

The name is inspired by the notion that the higher the altitude, the better the quality of the coffee bean. The altimeter, which is the brand’s logo, is how altitude is measured in a plane’s cockpit. Kenna, who spends time roasting each batch—4 pounds at a time, changes his blends seasonally. His current roster includes Sumatra, Nicaraguan, a blend of the two, and a Guatemalan decaf.

“Roasting is an intimate experience for me because of my smaller batches. There are few roasters in the business with a meticulous process such as mine, and the quality of taste reflects it,” says Kenna.

The idea of branching out as a coffee roaster was first sparked earlier this year, after Kenna took note of his hanger’s frequent consumption of local coffee. After discussing with the hanger’s general manager about personally providing the coffee in place of their current vendor, Kenna set out to purchase his own roasting equipment and quickly became Hanger 10’s in-house coffee roaster, satisfying pilots, employees and guests.
