Inside AC-U-KWIK: Launching Our First Integrated B&CA Newsletter
/We recently caught up with Justin Marciniak who works in Penton’s Business Aviation group (AC-U-KWIK, Aircraft Bluebook, Air Charter Guide and B&CA magazine) as a product manager. He is heading up the launch of a new weekly newsletter on Business Aviation. He took some time to give us the following update:
Prior to NBAA, AC-U-KWIK announced the launch of a new weekly B&CA Digest newsletter built on content across the Penton Business Aviation brands. How is that plan progressing, and is there a target launch set?
It is coming along nicely. B&CA Digest will start hitting inboxes around Dec. 9. We already have great content we’re anxious to share each week. We decided to launch after we completed a few other things that will improve the experience for readers. We set up the @AvWeekBCA Twitter account, the B&CA Facebook page and a new Web page for B&CA, BCAdigital.com.
That’s an aggressive jump into the digital world. How is that being received by the B&CA audience?
With a lot of comments on the Facebook page and a gradually growing group of Twitter followers. B&CA senior editor Fred George posted a photo of a heads-up display with Mount St. Helens in the distance from the left seat of an ERJ190. Or maybe that should be the other way around — a photo of Mount St. Helens as seen through a heads-up display. That pic was pretty popular with the Facebook friends. Fred’s video pilot reports aren’t to be missed. Most recently, he flew a Bombardier Challenger 350 for the November issue of BC&A. And yes, people will retweet and “favorite” Twitter posts about supercritical airfoils. With enough support, maybe @AvWeekBCA will break the Internet someday. Prepare your hashtags.
The business aviation community is really engaged because everyone in the segment does important, high-value, highly skilled and highly technical work. The community sticks together and engages with each other. B&CA gets a kick out of contributing information to help everyone in the community continue to excel at such important work.
Can you provide some insight on what the editorial direction will be for B&CA Digest newsletter itself?
The newsletter will provide industry intelligence from the pilots and business aviation experts who power our business aviation products with the objective of improving how aircraft operators and flight departments do their jobs. B&CA will lead the way with the expert how-to stories and analysis that are its specialties. We are going to emphasize videos produced by B&CA, such as Fred George’s video pilot reports and William Garvey’s Fast Five interviews. We’ll include business aviation commentary written by Bill, too. Readers can expect to see pre-owned aircraft market analysis from Aircraft Bluebook Marketline; news about technology; updates about FBOs, fuel prices and ground services; and spotlights on businesses and people that offer services and insight useful to operators.
AC-U-KWIK has the FBO Connection blog series. Will those articles be utilized for B&CA Digest?
Yes. We will include the FBO Connection blog posts for our readers who manage FBOs. We are thinking of this newsletter as a true digest of industry intelligence from all of Penton’s business aviation brands. We will be curating the newsletter each week. B&CA Digest will draw the best original content from B&CA, FBO Connection, AC-U-KWIK Alert, The Air Charter Journal and Aircraft Bluebook Marketline.
Sounds like a great lineup. Thanks for taking the time to provide an update. Are there any final thoughts you would like to add?
The purpose of B&CA Digest is to help people who operate business and commercial aircraft when they do their jobs and make important decisions. B&CA Digest should jolt readers’ inboxes with useful insight each Tuesday. I hope readers let us know how we are doing. They can send feedback in the form of comments at BCAdigital.com or write to the customer service email address that will appear at the end of each issue of newsletter.
