Flight Display Systems to Reveal its Ultra High Definition Display and Worldwide Moving Map

Flight Display Systems will be taking the wraps off of its Ultra High Definition Display prototypes at the 2014 NBAA in Orlando Florida. As technology advances, providing more options for media streaming and video and options, the technology available for aircraft has been racing to keep up. The displays are 23.8” and 39” Widescreen Ultra High Definition LCDs. They can display 1.07 billion colors with a maximum resolution of 3840 pixels X 2160 pixels. Each will have 3 HDMI ports and 1 DisplayPort for video input. They support multiple resolutions from VGA to UHD at 56Hz to 75Hz.
“We were one of the first to market with aircraft-grade HD displays. Now our team is developing 4K displays and the quality will blow you away.” says David Gray, President of Flight Display Systems.
Flight Display Systems Ultra High Definition Displays will be useful in Special Mission applications. As more content becomes available, private and business jet uses will increase.
Flight Display Systems began working on Ultra HD LCD screens in 2013. In developing leading edge technology, it's not sufficient to merely provide a retrofitted terrestrial video platform. The needs and concerns of aircraft must be taken into consideration. The Ultra High Definition Displays add more winners to an already strong line of bulkhead displays.
Flight Display Systems is also introducing a new ultra high resolution Worldwide Moving Map for business and private aircraft. The new map provides a super-detailed resolution of 90 square meters per pixel. Compare this with the current standard map, which is 500 square meters per pixel. The new high-resolution map will be available as part of our high-end JetJukebox this fall. The standard map will still be available on the entry level JetStreamer.
The Moving Map shows the position of the aircraft on a highly detailed satellite terrain. The software can be configured to show several levels of detail. Nearby cities and other geographical locations can also be displayed.
The Moving Map was our original product and we can’t wait for people to see what we’ve done with it now.” says Gray. “The detail is extraordinary.”
The Worldwide Moving Map uses satellite data and a database of cities, borders, airports, and other data. Using data from onboard avionics systems, the new map software will provide flight data such as speed, altitude, ETA, and more to passengers. Startup screen graphics can be configured to user specifications.
