Johnson County Executive Airport (KOJC) Damaged by Severe Storm
/Update (March 8, 2017): Johnson County Executive Airport (KOJC) is now open for flights, according to the Johnson County Airport Commission.
Johnson County Executive Airport (KOJC) in Olathe, Kan., reopened for "limited operations" this morning after severe storms damaged hangars and aircraft on Monday night, county manager Hannes Zacharias said in a Johnson County, Kan., news release.
Damage assessements are ongoing. The airport is not open to the public because of safety concerns. Most of the damage occurred on the east side of the airport, according to the county.
The Johnson County Airport Commision will meet with airport tenants today at 4 p.m.
First responders and Kansas City news organizations shared photos and video footage of the damage.
The Olathe Fire Department tweeted this photo from an area firefighters were investigating and securing last night.

The Kansas City Star posted this video of an interview with a spokesperson from the Olathe Fire Department that includes footage shot by the fire department and the photojournalists.
KCTV5 shot aerial video of a destroyed hangar building, debris covering aircraft and one aircraft on pushed onto another.
Although tornado warnings were not issued for or spotted in Johnson County, the National Weather Service will survey the area to determine whether straight line winds or a tornado caused the damage. Before the band of storms on Monday moved through the area around 8:30 p.m., the National Weather Service office in Pleasant Hill, Mo., near Kansas City reported a 67 mph wind gust at the airport.
