1. What sets your company apart from the competition?
Convenience and access sets us apart from our competition. The Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport (LXT) is centrally located, with easy access to Kansas City and the surrounding metropolitan area. We have excellent interstate highway access adjacent to the airport, making it convenient for corporate customers to quickly travel to their nearby businesses, and leisure travelers to attend nearby sporting events such as Royals and Chiefs games.
2. How do you attract new customers?
The Lee’s Summit Airport prides itself on providing outstanding customer service, which keeps our customers coming back time after time. If needed, staffing is available 24/7. In fall 2017, in conjunction with the completion of runway improvements, the Airport will offer extended business hours and a customer service/ concierge position to assist customers with reservations for rental cars, hotels, catering, transportation, pick-ups, etc.
3. What new features do you have at your location(s)?
In fall 2017, runway improvements will be complete and the Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport will have a 5,500 ft. grooved concrete runway, 60,000 lb. aircraft capacity, new and improved airfield lighting, a Jetgo ground power unit (GPU) and more. Another new feature at LXT is a 40,000 sq. ft. heated hangar space now available for rent for your corporate or business aircraft and/or itinerant stays.
4. What services/amenities do you provide?
The Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport offers a variety of services, including aircraft fueling, aircraft towing, crew cars, a ground power unit (GPU), hangar rental, office space for rent, a Jet A mobile refueler with single point capabilities, and more. The Lee’s Summit Airport is a branded AVFUEL contract fuel dealer, and all line staff are NATA certified. Some of the fixed base operations (FBO) services offered include aircraft inspections, aircraft maintenance, and flight school/lessons.
5. When did the company start business?
The City of Lee’s Summit purchased the Airport in September 1977. This acquisition was just seven years after the airport was opened in September, 1970, by Lee’s Summit resident Bill McComas.
6. How many people are on staff?
The Lee’s Summit Municipal Airport currently has five full-time staff, and five part-time line attendant staff. After runway improvements are complete in fall 2017, the Airport will add an additional three full-time staff, including a customer service/concierge position.
