Revv Aviation Offers Simulation Training at Three Flight School Locations
/Weather sometimes plays havoc with student pilots who are advancing through their ratings. Besides flight and ground training, Revv Aviation now offers a new solution at three of its upper Midwest locations with its Redbird FMX and Frasca simulators.
Student pilots can practice their flight maneuvers in Redbird FMX full-motion simulators located in Omaha, Neb., and Janesville, Wis., and a Frasca non-motion simulator in Schaumburg, Ill. Hourly prices range from $82-$150. All three are programmed as Cessna 172 trainer aircraft. In addition, the Redbird in Janesville has a modular panel for a Piper Warrior, a Cessna 172 in conventional configuration and a Garmin G1000 technologically advanced aircraft panel. The simulator in Omaha also has a panel for a Cessna 172, Piper Seminole, and a G1000 glass panel.
A portion of a pilot’s flight simulation time can be credited toward the number of in-flight hours required by the FAA. Simulator benefits include:
Students can practice many of the same maneuvers in the simulator as they do in the air, which saves the student money and time.
Students can practice real-life pilot situations, such as flying in inclement weather, engine failures, emergency procedures and more.
In many cases, currency can be obtained without an instructor, which decreases the cost to the student.
For Part 61 students, the FAA allows 2.5 hours of simulator time to be credited toward private pilot license; 20 hours of simulator time can be credited toward an instrument rating.
For Part 141 students, the FAA allows up to 15% of simulator time toward the total private pilot time requirements and 40% toward an instrument rating.
“Being in the upper Midwest, the weather can turn quickly. The simulators allow the students to continue with their flight training on inclement weather days,” said Jerome Howard, chief flight instructor for Revv.
