Midstate Aviation - Preparing For Liftoff at the Airport

The warm Midstate Aviation office at Bowers Field was filled with the smell of coffee as flight students and instructors reviewed the flight schedule and prepared for their 9 o’clock takeoff Wednesday morning.
Midstate, which has operated in Ellensburg since 1961, has a contract with Central Washington University to provide flight training at the airport about two miles north of town. As a fixed base operator, Midstate can be compared to a service station for the airport — its maintenance shop offers aircraft repairs and the company sells fuel.
Andy McIrvin, one of Midstate’s chief flight instructors, has been with the company since 2002. The Kittitas County airport has gotten busier in the past eight years, he said.
“Overall, I’d say the airport is getting bigger,” McIrvin said
