Plan To Build FBO May Cost Chattanooga Taxpayers
/From The Chattanoogan.com
Officials said a plan by the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport to build its own Fixed Base Operation (FBO) and hangar facilities may wind up as a loser for taxpayers.
However, airport officials defended the plan and said TAC Air, which has long had an operation at the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport, charges much more for fuel than a number of other regional airports.
Construction is getting underway on the new airport facility. Proposals were received on Friday for operating it.
TAC Air management has expressed concern over the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport Authority’s plan "to use taxpayer dollars to build a new FBO and extend a management contract to an outside operator to provide competition to TAC Air."
Christian Sasfai, vice president and COO of TAC Air, said, “If the private sector can’t make multiple FBOs work at Chattanooga for a reasonable profit, we wonder how government can make it work without losing taxpayer dollars.”
